THAT ART FAIR
The Palms Décor & Lifestyle Centre Supports Fresh Art from Africa!
THAT ART FAIR is an inspired, curated art fair event initiated by ART AFRICA magazine with a specific focus is on emerging and unrepresented contemporary artists from Africa and the diaspora.
Now in its second year, THAT ART FAIR continues to address the specific needs of artists living and working on the African continent and further afield by providing a curated platform where they can showcase their work in a professional environment. THAT ART FAIR specifically encourages an open, inviting and friendly environment where a new generation of art audience (and ultimately collectors) can meet with the artists directly and be introduced to their work.
After THAT ART FAIR 2015, Nicole Van Straaten wrote for Another Africa, “I am not the only one who feels a certain energy about the space; in his opening speech Albie Sachs, the apartheid activist and former judge on the Constitutional Court of South Africa, aptly points out, ‘This is a terrific space… It’s just a space. This space is so bare, and yet so central.’”
THAT ART FAIR 2016 has grown from these sentiments, building on the widely accessible platform we gave artists to thrive on in February 2015.
Our 2016 venue, situated at The Palms in the edgy urban art district of Woodstock (Cape Town), is as bare and as central as our first in an empty parkade in Salt River. This year, however, we offer almost triple the amount of floor and wall space; which means more artists, more art and more space for inspiring and engaging events and activations! Be at The Palms 18 February – 6 March.
The Palms décor and lifestyle centre is located at 145 Sir Lowry Road in Woodstock (Cape Town) showcasing unique local and international products and food, including a variety of contemporary art galleries. The Palms’ old world charm and architecture – combined with a vibrant, one-of-a-kind tenant mix – makes it a must-visit venue for locals and tourists alike.
